Virtual Behavioral Health Consultation
I offer an innovative solution for those that aren’t sure if they need intensive long-term counseling, are unable to find an available counselor, don’t have time for weekly counseling, or have a focused concern that they need help with. In my experience, when it comes to a mental health or interpersonal crisis, people often aren’t sure what kind of help they need - but know they need help. Understanding the difference between a psychiatrist, a psychologist, a social worker, a counselor, a marriage and family therapist, a coach, and all of the myriad of psychotherapies out there is confusing, for even the best educated among us.
I have a significant amount of experience helping people sort out what to do next when they feel lost and overwhelmed. I can also help when a family member is in crisis, providing direction on how to best support your loved one.
I have extensive training in the Behavioral Health Consultant model, which consists of a focused interview and tailored brief interventions for the issues that are causing distress. My focused approach uses targeted, scientifically proven, treatments with the overall goal of increasing psychological flexibility i.e. helping you get “unstuck”. In addition to tools that I provide, I may recommend referral to my network of mental health colleagues or to a higher level of care.
A major fault of our current mental health system is that, as beneficial as long-term therapy is, it results in significant access barriers to meeting with skilled professionals. I am passionate about making evidenced based therapies available and accessible.
I will meet with you over video* for 40-60 minutes initially and then for 30-60 minute sessions as needed. Some people only need one meeting, others require follow-up. I typically see people 3-5 times for behavioral health consultation over several months. Depending on the severity of your issues, more frequent visits are sometimes needed. I am only able to bill in-network to Blue Cross and Blue Shield insurance plans (Premera, Regence, Anthem, Lifewise, etc) but can provide documentation for you to seek out-of-network reimbursement if necessary. My services are eligible to be billed to a health savings account (HSA). Your credit, debit, or HSA card will be billed at time of service (for co-pay only or full price depending on coverage and deductible).
These sessions are offered entirely virtually, so you don’t need to worry about traffic or parking. Find a time that works for you and a private place to talk, and join me in a secure video conversation about how to improve your situation.
Consultation with me includes:
A conversation with a highly skilled, seasoned, empathetic clinician. There is strong evidence to support that just scheduling an appt with a mental health professional reduces symptoms. I find that for many, being given the space to share and unburden themselves of the pain they are struggling with, often leads to amazing pivots toward healing and a more resilient version of themselves.
Evidence based recommendations including:
Homework: Skills to practice or exercises to complete that will improve your ability to address the issues you are struggling with. During our conversation we will identify the things that give your life meaning and determine specific areas that you will focus on immediately to engage in what matters. This may include reconnecting with loved ones, engaging in healthier activities, or letting go of behaviors that are no longer working for you.
Digital Solutions: My recommended list of mental health apps and websites that offer further skills practice and information about the issues that you are facing.
Referrals: Recommendations for in-person resources (if indicated) or a recommended plan for getting to connected to the care that you need.
If you, or your family member, are at imminent risk for harming yourself or others, this service is not appropriate and you should call 911, go to the closest ER, or call the Crisis Clinic at 866-427-4747. If you, or your family member, are having worrisome thoughts, but are currently safe, this is a normal part of the human experience that I would be glad to help you address.
*Please note, that due to licensure rules, you must be within the borders of the states of Washington or Montana during our conversation.
